Dr. Beres received his Ph.D. in Molecular Biology from Northwestern University in Evanston, IL in 1995. After completing postdoctoral research fellowships at the Baylor College of Medicine in Houston, TX and Rocky Mountain Laboratories in Hamilton, MT, Dr. Beres returned to Baylor and became a research assistant professor in the Department of Pathology. Dr. Beres joined the Center for Molecular and Translational Human Infectious Diseases Research at The Methodist Hospital Research Institute in 2006. He became the director of microbial informatics for the Center in 2011.
Dr. Beres has sequenced several complete genomes of group A Streptococcus strains. This data has been used to elucidate virulence mechanisms, host-pathogen interactions, drug resistance, and disease spread.
