Our Speech-Language Pathologists are specially trained to work with patients who have serious medical conditions throughout our hospital. Our therapists have specialization in the evaluation and treatment of patients with swallowing, communication, and cognitive-linguistic disorders.
Goals: Our therapists will work with you to:
- Increase safety and efficiency after swallowing problems have been identified;
- Increase independence if you experience difficulty communicating your wants & needs, and/or maintaining your cognitive function.
Referral is necessary: Speech Therapy services at Houston Methodist Hospital are initiated in conjunction with your doctor, by their request for a therapy consultation.
Care Delivery: Our speech pathologists serve patients in our acute hospital, in TMH Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF), and in the TMH Rehabilitation Center. Therapy sessions for hospital and SNF patients are provided at your bedside. Therapy sessions for patients in the TMH Rehabilitation Center may be delivered at your bedside, or in other treatment areas.
Our standards of therapeutic care are evidence based and utilize guidelines from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association.
Qualifications: Our therapists are licensed by the state and they hold the Certificate of Clinical Competence (CCC) with the American Speech and Hearing Association. Two members of our staff are ASHA Board Recognized Specialists in Swallowing & Swallowing Disorders.
