Biography

Sona Joseph joined The Methodist Hospital Research Institute (TMHRI) as a Research Assistant-II in November, 2010. She received a master’s degree in Nanoscale Physics from Rice University in May, 2010. Her master’s research involved electrochemical synthesis of porous gold nanorods and the study of its melting behavior. In her final semester at Rice, she worked as a student intern in the department of Nanomedicine and Biomedical Engineering at University of Texas Health Science Centre (UTHSC) where she evaluated the interaction of porous gold nanorods with cancer cells and its optical absorbance. Before coming to US, she was working as a Physics lecturer in BCM College in India for one academic year.

Description of Research

  • Synthesis of porous gold nanodisks and study of its cytotoxicity and biodistribution.
  • Optical and Electro-magnetic behavior of nanoporous gold disks.

Major Areas of Research

Synthesis of metallic nanoparticles, Optical characterization, Cellular and Molecular Imaging.
