Description of Research

In collaboration with Dr. Britz, the Chairman for the Department of Neurosurgery, Dr. Federley's research focuses on understanding the biochemical basis for the poor clinical outcomes following subarachnoid hemorrhage. To study this process, he utilizes intravital two-photon microscopy to evaluate changes in cerebral microcirculation following rupture of blood vessels. With a greater understanding of the disease process, novel treatments can be investigated to protect neural tissue following these events, with the goal of translating advances in basic research to bedside treatments. Owning his biochemistry training, Dr. Federley also contributes to the development of novel assays in cancer systems laboratory.
