At Houston Methodist, our Office of Governance and Faculty Affairs is here to assist faculty with credentialing, appointments and re-appointments, promotion and recruitment.

One of our most important jobs is to ensure that research activities are undertaken by qualified individuals and add to Houston Methodist’s overarching goal of enhancing patient safety; credentialing is critical to administering those tasks.

The credentialing application is completed online, within the MORTI system. Depending on the type of research you are conducting, training modules and screenings are assigned. Some of these modules are required before you can obtain laboratory access. We offer credentialing in several areas:


  • Human Subjects
  • Animal Subjects
  • Hazardous Substances: Biohazardous agents > Level 2
  • Lab Access
  • Laser Safety
  • Recombinant Materials
  • Radiation Safety
  • Shipping Infectious Substances and Dry Ice

The Houston Methodist Research Institute Board of Directors provides direction and management of the affairs of the research institute. The Board is advised by several advisory committees. Our office supports the Board and its committees.

Faculty Appointments
We manage the academic appointments for the Institute for Academic Medicine, Houston Methodist Research Institute and Weill Cornell Medical College. Faculty appointments are offered in several academic tracks to research institute scientists and Core Directors, physicians and clinicians, at levels from Instructor to Full Member. In addition, Affiliate Memberships ranging from Instructor to Full Affiliate Member are offered for scientists and clinicians from affiliated institutions.

Research Institute Human Resources
