Governance & Faculty Affairs

At Houston Methodist, our Office of Governance and Faculty Affairs is here to assist faculty with credentialing, appointments and reappointments, promotions and recruitment.

Research Credentialing

One of our most important jobs is to ensure that research activities are undertaken by qualified individuals and add to Houston Methodist’s overarching goal of enhancing patient safety; credentialing is critical to administering those tasks.

The credentialing application is completed online, within the MORTI system. Depending on the type of research you are conducting, training modules and screenings are assigned. Some of these modules are required before you can obtain laboratory access. We offer credentialing in several areas:

  • Human Subjects
  • Animal Subjects
  • Hazardous Substances: Biohazardous agents > Level 2
  • Lab Access
  • Laser Safety
  • Recombinant Materials
  • Radiation Safety
  • Shipping and/Transporting of Biological Materials and/or Dry Ice

Governance

The Houston Methodist Academic Institute (HMAI) Board of Directors provides direction and management of the affairs of the HMAI, Research Institute (HMRI) and Education Institute (HMEI). The Board is advised by several advisory committees. Our office supports the Board and its committees.

Faculty Onboarding

Our office serves as a liaison between Human Resources and the Research Institute faculty, coordinating faculty recruitment and onboarding, laboratory transfers, and annual faculty performance reviews. For more information contact facultyaffairs@houstonmethodist.org.

Faculty Appointments

Our office manages the academic appointments for the Houston Methodist Academic Institute (HMAI) and Weill Cornell Medical College (WCMC) and membership to the Houston Methodist Research Institute (HMRI). Faculty appointments are initiated through the HMAI, and then submitted for consideration to WCMC. Membership to the HMRI is available for HMAI faculty who are actively engaged in research. Faculty appointments are offered at different ranks on several different academic tracks. Faculty appointments are offered for scientists, clinicians, and experienced professionals in industry collaborating with Houston Methodist faculty.
