This dynamic group of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation physicians established their practice at Houston Methodist Hospital with more than 25 years of combined experience in academic and clinical teaching. These physicians evaluate and treat a wide variety of disorders including orthopedic, neurologic, pain, as well as, general conditioning, nutrition, and wellness needs. They offer a full spectrum of rehabilitation services at all levels including acute care consultation, acute inpatient rehabilitation, and skilled nursing consultation as well as a variety of outpatient clinics.

Jenny Lai, M.D.
Section Chief of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation
Dr. Jenny Lai’s primary interests include neurologic rehabilitation for stroke, multiple sclerosis and brain injury survivors as well as spasticity management with Botox andBaclofen pumps. Dr. Lai also has extensive experience with neurobehavioral issues in neurologic conditions.
Lawrence Nguyen, M.D.
Director of Musculoskelatal Services
Dr. Lawrence Nguyen’s clinical focus includes musculoskeletal, spine, and conservative pain management in addition to general conditioning, nutrition, and obesity management. He also performs EMGs, trigger point and joint injections.
Teresa Kaldis, M.D.
Director of Consult Service
Dr. Teresa Kaldis’ clinical focus is primarily hospital based care for patients with neurologic and orthopedic diagnosis. She has a special interest in multiple sclerosis, polio, Parkinson’s disease and neuromuscular disorders.
Purvi Desai, M.D.
Assistant Director of Consult Service
Dr. Purvi Desai’s clinical focus is hospital based care of stroke, amputee, neurological,spinal cord, orthopedic, and brain injury patients in addition to spasticity, muscu-loskeletal, and pain management.
Monika Shah Ayyar, D.O.
Medical Director of Rehabilitation Unit
Dr. Monika Ayyar is fellowship-trained in traumatic brain injury and stroke. Her specialty includes traumatic brain injury, stroke, spinal cord injury as well as multiple sclerosis. Dr. Ayyar has extensive experience with spasticity management including Botox, phenol and Baclofen pumps.
