Chris Brooks

Chris Brooks was a member of the U.S. Men’s Junior National Team for gymnastics when he experienced a potentially career-ending, limb-threatening injury. He severely broke both forearm bones when he was unable to maintain his grip on the high bar following a double backflip over the bar.

Chris came to Dr. Korsh Jafarnia, a hand and upper-extremity specialist, to repair the break and address complications from the injury.

Dr. Jafarnia performed the surgery, placing plates and screws to set the bones and to prevent any permanent damage to the arm. Together, Dr. Jafarnia and the specialized hand therapy team worked with Chris to achieve not only full recovery but also the physical ability to return to his training and the gymnastics he loves.

The months of physical therapy, dedication of Dr. Jafarnia and the hand therapy team, and the perseverance and determination innate to athletes paid off for Chris. In 2012, he traveled to London with the U.S. men’s gymnastics team for the Summer Olympics. Chris says, "Dr. Jafarnia and the whole physical therapy crew are a crucial part of the possibility of my dream coming true. I definitely wouldn't be where I'm at today if it wasn't for them."
