|Aparajitha K. Verma, MD, Director of the Comprehensive Sleep Program
Dr. Aparajitha Verma’s specialties are initial clinical evaluation and continued management of patients with sleep disorders, including patients with sleep apnea and neuromuscular disease related sleep disorders, idiopathic hypersomnia, narcolepsy, parasomnias and insomnia. Dr. Verma also heads a CPAP/BIPAP desensitization clinic to help improve patient compliance. Her other specialties include electro-diagnostic medicine and clinical neurophysiology. She is board certified in Sleep Medicine.
|Amit Verma, MD, Medical Staff, Sleep Disorders Center
Dr. Verma focuses on the treatment of patients with sleep disorders due to neurological conditions such as narcolepsy and the management of patients with sleep disordered breathing. He also specializes in the diagnosis and management of patients with refractory epilepsy. He is board certified in Sleep Medicine and Clinical Neurophysiology.
|Andreea Andrei, MD, Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences
Dr. Andrei helps patients understand the effects of psychiatric disorders and medications on sleep and restore their sleep-wake cycle when the disturbance is due to a psychiatric cause.
|Jamie Gateno, DDS, Oral Maxillofacial Surgery
Dr. Gateno provides treatment of patients with sleep disordered breathing and has expertise in cephalometric analysis of the airway, skeletal surgery for the treatment of sleep apnea and dental sleep appliances.
|Masayoshi Takashima, MD, Otolaryngology
Dr. Takashima focuses on educating and treating patients with sleep disordered breathing and snoring. Treatments range from minimally invasive procedures which can be performed in a clinic setting to techniques performed in the operating room. He is a founding member of the International Surgical Sleep Society.
Henry Terrell IV, Manager, Sleep Disorders Center
Henry joined the Sleep Disorders Center team during the winter of 2008. He has a Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from Texas A&M University and is registered by the Board of Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT). Henry has worked in the field of sleep disorders for 13 years. "Sleep-related issues are among the most common, yet most under-diagnosed medical conditions facing our society today. Our goal at the Houston Methodist Hospital Sleep Disorders Center is educate, diagnose and treat those with sleep disorders. In doing so, we strive to improve not only the quality of their sleep, but the quality of their lives as well."
Dee has been in healthcare for the past 19 years. She is registered by the Board of Polysomnographic Technologists. After pursuing classes in Nursing she decided to enter the sleep field. "The sleep field is a very rewarding and challenging field. I love to help patients gain back their quality of life and feel lucky to be in the position to do that." Dee joined our team in July 2008.
Kelsey has worked in Sleep Medicine for the past 7 years. She has been working as a Sleep Technologist at the Houston Methodist Hospital Sleep Disorders Center since 2005. Kelsey has studied nursing and is currently pursuing her degree in Healthcare Management. Kelsey is eligible to become registered by the Board of Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT). Kelsey really enjoys her job and feels very fortunate to work at the TMH Sleep Center. She knows that sleep medicine is a unique and eclectic field of medicine that is always evolving. Every patient is unique and that is what makes Kelsey interested in and challenged by her job. Kelsey said, “It is very rewarding to me that we can actually see the positive change in someone’s health on a daily basis. I am personally very proud of the team approach that we as technologists use here at our facility. I look forward to educating patients on the benefits of not only a good night’s sleep, but a restful one as well.”
James A Paras
Jim is our most experienced staff member with over 40 years in the healthcare industry. He has a wealth of knowledge. Jim has earned a Basic Science BA and a Master in Psychology. He is also a Certified Respiratory Therapist, a Registered Pulmonary Technologist and a Registered Polysomnographic Technologist by the Board of Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT). Houston Methodist Hospital Sleep Disorders Center became Jim’s employment home in early 2008. Jim has very severe sleep apnea himself. Because of his experiences, he enjoys helping other people on the path to better sleep.
Ryan G Sullivan
Ryan joined the Houston Methodist Hospital Sleep Disorders Center in 2007. He has been in the healthcare industry for three years. In addition to being registered by the Board of Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) Ryan also has a Bachelor of Science in Administration. Ryan entered the healthcare field to find a more fulfilling job. Ryan said, “I enjoy working directly with patients. My own health problems sparked my interest in sleep medicine, and patients' satisfaction from the benefits of their treatment makes my job very satisfying.”
Rick has been in healthcare for the past 7 years. He has been a member of Houston Methodist Hospital Sleep Disorders Center since 2006. Rick is registered by the Board of Polysomnographic Technologists (BRPT) and also has a Bachelor of Arts in Humanities. Rick has always found sleep to be an interesting field. It has been rewarding for him to be a part of helping people sleep better. He enjoys meeting people from different backgrounds.
Dana has been working in the healthcare industry for the past 16 years. She has worked at the Houston Methodist Hospital Sleep Disorders Center since 2007. Dana is our coordinator for the Comprehensive Sleep Disorders Program and is a wealth of information and endless caring for our patients and staff.
Gina began working at Houston Methodist Sleep Disorders Center in 2008. She has been in healthcare for 7 years and strives in excellent customer service. She is available to help you with all of you scheduling & registration needs.
