Program Overview

This course is designed to give a comprehensive review of the most current as well as emerging ideas in the field of neuroscience with an emphasis on genetics, heredity, and future gene therapies. Following the completion of the Human Genome last century, this century will see unprecedented discoveries in the field of neurogenetics that will lead to the explosion of gene-based therapies for previously incurable neurological diseases. In-depth discussion will also take place on the treatment and possible prevention of stroke, Alzheimer’s disease, ALS, and Parkinson’s disease. The goal of this course is to encompass both medical and surgical therapies that constitute the cutting-edge of the clinical practice in neurology and neurosurgery. The exciting future of genomics and proteinomics will be presented as they advance from research labs into clinical reality.
