The birth of a new baby is always an exciting time in a parent’s life. This week, a few of the new moms at Houston Methodist West Hospital received an extra surprise when two players from the Houston Texans dropped by.

Running back Alfred Blue, and wide receiver Bruce Ellington visited several patients and their families at the Houston Methodist Childbirth Center at West on Tuesday evening. They also stopped by to visit a family with an infant in the neonatal intensive care unit.

“Everyone was so excited to see them,” said Tracy Cimo, interim director of the Childbirth Center. “This is already such a happy time for our new moms, and having a Texans player stop by to visit and take pictures was really just the icing on the cake.”

When moms were told that Blue and Ellington would be stopping by, many of them called other family members to come back to the hospital and meet them too. The families took several pictures with the players, who chatted with them and joked around with some of the older siblings. Blue even held one of the mom’s day-old son.

“We loved having them visit,” added Cimo, “and I know our patients did too!”

Houston Methodist serves as the official health care provider for the Houston Texans, Houston Astros, Houston Dynamo, Houston Dash, Rice Athletics, RodeoHouston and Houston Ballet.

The Houston Methodist Childbirth Center at West has a NICU to care for babies born at 28 weeks or later, along with 26 private childbirth rooms. It offers prenatal education, childbirth classes and tours, and has a neonatologist and pediatric support team managed in partnership with Texas Children’s Hospital.
