Houston Methodist to open city’s first endurance athlete program Jan. 23

Houston's endurance athletes soon will have access to a unique health care program designed to meet their specialized needs.

On Jan. 23, the Houston Methodist Endurance Medicine Program will open to provide injury prevention, evaluation and treatment specifically to runners, triathletes, cyclists, swimmers and other endurance athletes. The program will be held every Thursday afternoon and will rotate between Houston Methodist offices at the Texas Medical Center (6550 Fannin Street, Smith Tower, Suite 2600, Houston), Houston Sports Park (12131 Kirby, Suite 200, Houston), Baytown (4000 Garth Road, Suite 200, Baytown) and Willowbrook (13802 Centerfield Drive, Suite 300, Houston). Under the Direction of Dr. Scott Rand, the PCSM Fellowship Program Broadens the Scope of Sports Medicine and Level of Care Athletes and Active Individuals of All Ages Receive

The Primary Care Sports Medicine (PCSM) Fellowship program at Houston Methodist Orthopedics & Sports Medicine strengthens its footing within Houston and advances the scope of sports medicine, as its first fellows graduate and two more begin.

The Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital PCSM program along with its sister program at Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital are unique in that they are both attached academically to the same family medicine residency program, which is also run by Houston Methodist Hospital. Together, they represent the largest Primary Care Sports Medicine training program in Texas. The program provides fellows with a broader understanding of the unique needs of the athletic population - setting a unique precedence in sports medicine training. Read More

Houston Dynamo and Dynamic DocsHouston Dynamo fans gathered on the Methodist Willowbrook Hospital campus to meet the players and the Methodist Sports Health team at an open house event for the new Houston Methodist Orthopedics & Sports Medicine and its Human Performance Lab this past week.

The Houston Dynamo players, cheerleaders and mascot, Diesel, signed autographs, took pictures and talked about soccer and staying fit. Families came out to enjoy the event, testing their kicking skills in the Houston Dynamo soccer tent, enjoying refreshments and giveaways, and touring the new center dedicated to athletes of all ages and level of play.Read More
