Postpartum & Nurseries

Postpartum Room

Our 24 bed postpartum suites are private rooms which allow mom and her baby to get to know one another. Your infant will be a source of great joy for your family, but you may have lots of questions. The staff is here to help you and your family to learn to take care of your baby. Assistance with “hands on” learning experiences such as diaper changes, feeding and dressing baby is offered.  A professional photographer is available for photographs of your new baby at an additional cost if you would like to take advantage of this service. The “At Your Request” meal services allow you to order your meals. A meal ticket may be purchased in the cafeteria for a nominal fee to allow a guest to dine in the room with the patient. A menu is provided for meal selection.

Visiting Hours

Visiting hours are 24 hours per day, but may be limited based on the patient’s condition. Family and friends may visit in your room, but no hallway waiting is permitted. One adult visitor may spend the night. A sleeper couch is provided for your guest’s comfort. No children are permitted to spend the night for safety concerns. Siblings are encouraged to visit their new brother or sister and mother.

Infant Security

Nothing replaces the watchful eye of a parent. The hospital has measures in place to help protect your infant. Hospital Family Centered Care employees identify themselves by wearing a pink badge, which allows them to transport your infant.

Additional safety measures:

  • ID bands placed on baby and both parents/partners
  • Transponder placed on baby to monitor his/her location
  • Your baby is foot printed and photographed
  • Secured nursery entries
  • Surveillance cameras on each unit and at all entrances and exits
  • Staff is highly trained in security measures
  • All patient information is kept confidential
  • The Hospital does not provide outside agencies or newspapers with information regarding births

NICU (Neonatal Intensive Care Unit)

Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital has a 10 bed Neonatal Intensive Care Unit. This level II nursery is in close proximity to the labor and delivery area. The nursery is utilized if your baby requires further observation, medications or treatments. Parents and families are permitted to visit and care for their infant as much as possible depending on the baby’s condition and needs.

Virtual Visits with Baby

Sometimes newborns need specialized care and may be transferred to Texas Children’s Hospital. If this happens, you can stay connected to your baby, even if you are not able to physically leave the hospital. Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital and Texas Children’s Hospital (TCH) have partnered together to provide a state-of-the-art service called “Family Vision” that allows you and your family to “virtually visit” your baby at TCH with a special television monitor. This service also allows you to see and talk to your baby’s nurse and doctor, who will be able to address any questions you may have regarding the care and progress of your baby. These appointments are individually scheduled between the hospitals and are 15-30 minutes in length per day. In addition, this service can be extended to you and your family even after your discharge.
