At Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital, volunteers are an essential part of our health care team, helping us deliver compassionate, world-class care to our patients and visitors.

Our volunteer program offers volunteers many rewarding and meaningful opportunities to interact with patients, assist staff or provide clerical or administrative support to various departments.

Creative placement and flexible scheduling afford each new volunteer the opportunity to pursue his or her special interests, using individual skills and talents to make a positive difference in the lives of our patients, families, staff and fellow volunteers. By volunteering at Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital, many people have enriched their own lives while serving a vital role in the local community and helping others.

Who Can Volunteer?

Houston Methodist Sugar Land Hospital welcomes volunteers of all ages – young adults, adults and senior citizens. As a values-based organization, we choose individuals with a strong work ethic who possess personal values of integrity, compassion, accountability, respect and excellence.

Applicants for volunteer service must meet basic requirements, including a clean background check and Houston Methodist Sugar Land’s health and immunization standards.

How to Become a Volunteer

To be considered for our volunteer program, please contact Jeanne VanDuivendyk at 281-274-7127 or jtvanduivendyk@houstonmethodist.org to request an application, or you can pick one up at the front desk of the Main Pavilion hospital entrance. Please complete and return the application to the Human Resources Department located on the first floor of the Sweetwater Pavilion. If you are selected for further consideration, a representative from volunteer services will contact you to arrange a convenient time for an interview.

At the time of your interview, you will be asked to provide written permission for a standard background check to be conducted. You will also be given instructions to complete a simple online Electronic Learning Module (ELM). Once selected for the volunteer program, you will need to obtain a TB test and drug screen from our employee health nurse. This will be scheduled for you by the Volunteer Services Department after you have completed the ELM and your background check has been cleared.

All volunteers are asked to agree to a commitment of at least one day per week, four hours per day. Unless negotiated otherwise, a typical term of service is for one year or a minimum of 150 hours.
