Among the newest technologies in wound care treatment is Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy (HBOT), which increases the amount of oxygen in the patient´s blood. This enables oxygen to more easily pass through plasma and into the wounds – prompting a more rapid healing.

With Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy, patients are immersed in 100 percent oxygen at an atmospheric pressure that is higher than normal. This is beneficial for those suffering from such conditions as diabetes, certain skin and bone infections, radiation-related damage and those with vulnerable skin grafts or flaps. These patients tend to have wounds that are slow to heal, lasting a month or more.

Conditions most conducive and clinically approved for HBOT include:

  • Compromised skin grafts and flaps
  • Diabetic foot ulcers
  • Radiation tissue damage
  • Necrotic soft tissue infections
  • Replants
  • Problem wounds
  • Air/gas embolism
  • Thermal burns
  • Refractory osteomyelitis
  • Ischemia
  • Clostridial myonecrosis
  • Crush Injury and other acute trauma
  • Gas gangrene
  • Exceptional blood loss anemia
