Protect Yourself from Heart Disease Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital Hosts Free Heart Screening and SeminarWillowbrook, TX - 2/3/2014
Some heart disease risks, such as smoking, are quite commonly known, but did you know that diabetes, sleep apnea or depression could also raise your risk of a heart attack? Learn more about heart disease at a free heart screening and seminar hosted by Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital on Tuesday, February 25 at 5 p.m. in the Women’s & Children’s Pavilion Conference Center on the hospital campus at 18220 State Highway 249. Mohammed S. Khan, MD, and Sanjay Kunapuli, MD, cardiologists on the hospital’s medical staff, will discuss how to build heart healthy behaviors into your daily routine so you can extend – and improve the quality of – your life. The event includes free cholesterol and blood pressure screenings for the first 200 people to register. For more information and to register, call 281.737.2500.
Men 35 or older and women 45 or older can benefit from the screening. However, the age is much lower – men at 20+ and women at 25+ – if you have one or more of certain risk factors. Your chances of developing heart disease increase if you smoke, are overweight (BMI higher than 25), do not exercise regularly (less than 30 minutes a day), have diabetes or pre-diabetes, have high blood pressure (higher than 120/80), eat an unhealthy diet, or are under stress.
