Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital Earns Prestigious Magnet® RecognitionWillowbrook, TX - 10/25/2013
HOUSTON – (October 24, 2013) – Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital has been named a Magnet recognized health care facility by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s (ANCC) Magnet Recognition Program®, joining only 7 percent of hospitals nationwide with this distinction.
This prestigious honor represents the highest level of international recognition to health care organizations that demonstrate sustained excellence in nursing care. Magnet status also provides consumers with the ultimate benchmark to measure the quality of care they can expect to receive.
“The credit for earning this Magnet recognition goes to our entire nursing team, our leadership team and our medical community for all their ongoing efforts to create an environment where teamwork and great patient care results in stellar outcomes,” said Beryl Ramsey, chief executive officer, Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital and executive vice president, Houston Methodist.
All Magnet Recognition Program® applicants undergo an extensive evaluation, and members who are granted Magnet status must continue to maintain rigorous quality and nursing standards as part of their four-year designation.
“We began our journey to Magnet designation three years ago. We have developed a true Magnet culture within our organization where we use innovation and our passion for healing to make a difference in the lives of our patients and their families. We are truly honored to receive this award,” said Sheila Fata, MBA, BSN, RN, NEA-BC, vice president and chief nursing officer at Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital.
Earlier this year, appraisers from the ANCC visited Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital to conduct an official three-day Magnet onsite survey in which nearly every inpatient and outpatient unit was visited and hundreds of staff members and members of the Board of Trustees were interviewed. A public forum was held where more than 40 members of the community shared their feedback about the hospital with the ANCC site survey team. Houston Methodist Willowbrook Hospital is one of 31 Magnet hospitals in Texas, which includes Houston Methodist Hospital in the Texas Medical Center, which was first designated in 2002.
