Houston Methodist Provides a "Service of Remembrance"

Baytown, TX - 10/14/2013

Whether it be a family member, friend or close companion, the death of a loved one can be difficult to handle. Grief is typically a response to a major loss. To help those suffering from grief, Houston Methodist San Jacinto Hospital will provide a “Service of Remembrance” on Sunday, October 20 at 2 p.m. The service will be held at St. Mark’s United Methodist Church in Baytown.

The remembrance is open to families, caretakers and friends who have recently experienced the death of a loved one at Houston Methodist San Jacinto, and anyone else in the community suffering from a recent loss. There will be several readings, a candle-lighting ceremony and a performance by a soloist. David Sanders, St. Mark’s organist/pianist, will also provide musical selections. A small reception at the church will follow the service.

Chaplain Linda Tolon, director of spiritual care at Houston Methodist San Jacinto and organizer of the event, feels that the event is a great way for those coping with grief to gather with others dealing with it as well. “Losing a loved one can be one of the hardest events to overcome; grief is a natural reaction,” said Tolon. “A remembrance service, such as this, allows individuals to come together and celebrate their loved one’s life and contributions.”
