Crosby Fair and Rodeo Donates $35,000 to Houston Methodist San Jacinto Cancer CenterBaytown, TX - 8/19/2013
The Crosby Fair & Rodeo recently donated $35,000 toward the Houston Methodist San Jacinto Hospital Pink Heals Endowment Fund. The funds were raised during the organization’s Bras for the Cause event held in February.
The Bras for the Cause committee works in conjunction with the Crosby Fair & Rodeo to raise funds, which are donated to the organization of the committee’s choice. A $5000 donation was also made to the American Cancer Society.
“We chose Houston Methodist San Jacinto Hospital Cancer Center in Baytown because we wanted to keep it local. We gave the greatest amount of our money to Methodist because that’s our local community,” said Debbie Holmelin, committee chair of Bras for the Cause.
“It’s very important to note that all of the money raised stays in our community to help us support local patients who are in need,” said Denise Martinez, director of Cancer Services at Houston Methodist San Jacinto. The hospital hosted a reception and provided the committee members with a tour of the Cancer Center, to provide more information on the facility.
The Pink Heals Endowment Fund assists cancer patients who experience financial hardship while undergoing treatment at Houston Methodist San Jacinto’s Cancer Center. Funds can be used toward expenses such as medical bills, medications and utilities.
The 2014 Bras for the Cause event will be held Saturday, February 8 at the Crosby American Legion Hall. For more information on cancer services at Houston Methodist San Jacinto, please call 281-420-8557.
