Dr. Jafarnia Helps Rice Volleyball Star Get Back on the CourtWillowbrook, TX - 6/1/2013
Dr. Korsh Jafarnia of The Methodist Hospital for Orthopedic Hand Specialists helps get a Rice University volleyball star back on the court. Jillian Humphrey fracturered her hand in three places, an injury that Dr. Jafarnia says can usually result in permanent damage. “When she made a fist, (her fingers) were scissoring, meaning that the fingers were turning sideways when she was trying to make a fist,” said Dr. Jafarnia to Channel 2 News in Houston.
“To have all three broken is pretty severe. Traditionally, before we had all these fancy new toys and plates and screws, we would cast patients and accept deformity."
It took six weeks after surgery for Jilian to start playing volleyball again. She will return to the Rice volleyball team in the fall thanks to Dr. Jafarnia of The Methodist Hospital for Orthopedic Hand Specialists.
