Methodist J.C. Walter Jr. Transplant Center - Houston, TX

“Next month I will play on a golf team at the Transplant Olympics. These events are just small tokens of how I know to give back, and to raise awareness about the incredible gift of life one can give through organ donation.” – Brian Gilliam, heart recipient

About heart transplants

In a heart transplant, a failing heart is replaced with a healthy heart from a generous donor who has recently passed away. It’s generally reserved for patients who have tried medications or other surgeries but haven’t been able to improve their conditions.

Some of the more common heart conditions that may lead to the need for a transplant are:

  • Congenital heart disease
  • Cardiomyopathy
  • Congestive heart failure
  • Coronary artery disease
  • Valvular disease
