The world-class capabilities of Houston Methodist Hospital allow internal medicine physicians to conduct leading-edge research and clinical trials. Many of these physicians work in concert with the Center of Excellence for Diabetes, Obesity and Lipids as well as Houston Methodist DeBakey Heart & Vascular Center, and they publish their findings in top medical journals. Current studies include examining new ways to treat hypertension, lipid disorders, thrombosis and orthopedic injuries.

The Internal Medicine Service develops specific treatment plans for individuals and families, often making use of Houston Methodist's vast array of innovative medical technologies. They also create care plans for peri- and post-operative patients. Many patients choose internal medicine doctors as their primary care physicians due to their broad medical expertise.

Physicians from the Internal Medicine section also play an important role in the University Teaching Service of the Internal Residency Program at Houston Methodist Hospital, contributing to Houston Methodists' committment to education our future caregivers.
