Clinical Service Chief

The Rheumatology Service at Houston Methodist Hospital specializes in diagnosing and treating diseases and conditions of the body's connective tissue, as well as musculoskeletal problems and systemic illnesses, including autoimmune diseases. Rheumatologists at Houston Methodist work across nearly all departments and divisions to treat the whole patient and implement non-surgical treatments for joint and tissue pain.

These specialists diagnose and treat such disorders as:

  • Rheumatoid arthritis
  • Systematic Lupus Erythematosus (SLE)
  • Polymyositis
  • Scleroderma
  • Vasculitis
  • Related connective tissue diseases

Because they consider the whole patient in all diagnoses, the experts of the Rheumatology Service at Houston Methodist utilize excellent clinical skills and cutting-edge lab technology. Rheumatologists have a prominent role in Houston Methodist's academic arena, training new physicians to perform thorough clinical exams, including musculoskeletal exams, back pain exams and physical histories to better recognize pathologies by look and feel. They also teach physicians-in-training how to best make use of the advanced tests available through Houston Methodist's pathology lab and interpret test results.

The Rheumatology Service interacts with nearly all specialties and subspecialties, taking a holistic approach to patient care while offering the latest treatments and therapies.
