The goal of the Cardiac Health and Rehabilitation Program is to empower patients to take control of their recovery from heart disease by making some important lifestyle changes. We accomplish this through a combination of a progressive exercise program and educational resources for patients and their families.
We designed the Cardiac Health and Rehabilitation program around five key principles:
- Exercise training under the direct supervision of a physician
- Medication review
- Nutrition counseling
- Lifestyle management
- Risk factor modification
The inpatient cardiac rehabilitation program encompasses:
- All coronary procedures such as angioplasty/stent placement, heart transplant, coronary artery bypass and valve replacement or repair
- Progressive activity and education to assist recovery from heart attack and congestive heart failure
Rehabilitation typically begins within hours following surgery and continues through most of the patient's stay.
Our outpatient cardiac rehabilitation program teaches patients to modify their lifestyles through monitored exercise and classes on nutrition, stress management and behavior modification. Recovering patients spend time with a diverse group of health professionals, including dietitians, pharmacists and physiologists, to get their questions answered and address any concerns.
