Stenting is a procedure, often performed along with angioplasty, in which a small wire mesh tube called a stent is inserted to keep a cleared artery open.
The procedure is the same as for a simple angioplasty, only the stent is wrapped around the deflated balloon catheter before it is inserted. When the balloon is inflated, the stent expands and attaches to the artery wall to reduce the chance of the artery becoming narrow or blocked again.
