Biography - Walter O'Hara, M.D.

Dr. Walter O’Hara is the Medical Director of Cardiovascular Surgery at Methodist Willowbrook Hospital and an Assistant Professor in the Department of Cardiovascular Surgery at the Methodist Hospital/Weill Cornell Medical School. He was born and raised in Virginia where he graduated from college and received his medical degree from Eastern Virginia Medical School in 1995. He completed his General Surgery residency at the Medical Center of Central Georgia in 2000; and his cardiothoracic fellowship at the University of Mississippi in 2002. Prior to joining Methodist, he was in private practice in Wichita, KS and served as Chair of Cardiovascular Surgery at Via Christi Medical Center.

Dr. O’Hara’s clinical expertise includes: off pump coronary surgery, surgical treatment of atrial fibrillation, minimally invasive cardiothoracic surgery and electromagnetic navigational bronchoscopy. His research interests include: ventricular assist devices, surgical simulation and surgical outcomes.

Dr. O’Hara is a member of the Society of Thoracic Surgeons, The American College of Surgeons, and the International Society of Minimally Invasive Cardiac Surgery.

Dr. O’Hara is an avid triathelete and enjoys family time with his wife and two sons.
