Welcome to Methodist Academic Medicine Associates

On behalf of all our physicians, nurses and staff members, it is my pleasure to welcome you to Methodist Academic Medicine Associates. This practice, affiliated with and bearing the name of Houston Methodist Hospital in Houston, Texas, provides our patients superior primary and specialty care using therapies and technologies that are among the most advanced in the world.

Academic Leadership

The name of our practice includes a key phrase: academic medicine. The doctors who practice at Methodist Academic Medicine Associates are not just practicing physicians - they are also teachers. Holding academic appointments at Weill Cornell Medical College, they are actively involved in training the next generation of physicians - both at Houston Methodist Hospital and through presentations and seminars held at hospitals and medical schools across the United States. This role helps to keep our physicians on the cutting edge of new understanding, new procedures and advances in patient care.

Focused Expertise

Leadership in technology and patient care is also at our disposal through Houston Methodist Hospital's Centers of Excellence. These specialized multidisciplinary centers include the Houston Methodist DeBakey Heart & Vascular Center; Methodist Cancer Center; Diabetes, Obesity and Lipids; Methodist Neurological Institute; Methodist Transplant Center; and Methodist Bone and Joint Center. Our connection to these centers - among the best in the world - means that our patients have access to exceptional specialty care at a moment's notice.

Research

In addition to their practice and teaching roles, many of our physicians are actively involved in the work of Houston Methodist Research Institute. In 2007, research studies conducted by our physicians were supported by more than $7.7 million in foundation and corporate grant funding, and our physicians published more than two dozen articles in peer-reviewed medical and scientific journals. This research role not only keeps us abreast of the latest developments in laboratory and clinical research, but also helps us bring the latest therapies and clinical trial opportunities to our patients.

All of this work as teachers, researchers and leaders in the field builds toward a single goal: providing patient care worthy of Houston Methodist Hospital's name and its legacy of excellence.

Sincerely,

Signature of Richard J. Robbins, M.D., F.A.C.P.
