More than 200 women turned out for San Jacinto Methodist Hospital’s annual Women’s Health Fair on Friday, November 16. This year’s theme was “Get the STAR Treatment,” as women were invited to participate in Screenings, Technology And Roundtable discussions.
Roundtable discussions on various women’s health topics were facilitated by medical staff at the hospital. Attendees had an opportunity to ask questions of the doctors following each session. Free cholesterol/triglyceride, blood pressure, oxygen saturation and body fat/body mass index (BMI) screenings were available to participants.Additionally, the San Jacinto Methodist Cancer Center provided cervical screenings to eligible women. Representatives from hospital departments we on-hand to give information on topics such as the Sleep Center, cancer services, diabetes, wound care, and heart attack and stroke prevention.
The highlight of the event was the opportunity to perform a simulation on the hospital’s da Vinci® Surgical System. This device is used to perform hysterectomies and other gynecological procedures, and provides a less painful surgical experience and quicker recovery for patients. Participants sat behind the controls and attempted to unwrap a Tootsie Roll candy using the machine’s robotic instruments.
