Center for Cardiovascular Disease Prevention

For more than a decade, the Houston Methodist Center for Cardiovascular Disease Prevention has searched for more effective therapies to prevent heart attacks and strokes from vascular disease, which is the number one killer of Americans today.

As one of only a handful of such centers in the United States, our doctors at Houston Methodist have gained national prominence through three primary activities: cardiology research, patient care and education.

With funding from the National Institutes of Health, the American Heart Association and other organizations, the center is home to several important cardiology research studies. Recent trials have focused on issues such as biomarkers that can predict heart disease, the link between obesity and heart disease and genes that regulate progression of coronary artery disease.

Patient Care
Houston Methodist Center for Cardiovascular Disease Prevention, part of Houston Methodist DeBakey Heart & Vascular Center, also offers a wide array of services for patients with cardiovascular conditions. For patients who want to take the first step toward prevention and wish to better understand their risk of heart disease, our heart and vascular screening packages offer valuable insight into numerous risk factors.

In addition, weight management is a vital factor in managing the risk of cardiovascular disease, and the Houston Methodist Weight Management Center helps patients achieve weight loss with safe, long-term solutions to live a healthier life and reduce the risk factors for heart disease.

The Center for Cardiovascular Disease Prevention's Lipid Metabolism and Atherosclerosis Clinic offers patients access to specialists who are experienced in the diagnosis and treatment of high cholesterol and atherosclerosis, a hardening of the arteries that often leads to heart attack or stroke. Our doctors and staff are nationally recognized for their expertise in helping patients reduce their cholesterol levels and prevent further hardening of the arteries.

The Houston Methodist Center for Cardiovascular Disease Prevention is committed to leading the way in educating medical students, researchers and doctors in the field of preventive cardiovascular care.

In addition to training students and fellows, we also support the yearlong training of one fellow in clinical and translational research through the atherosclerosis fellowship training program.
