Methodist Willowbrook Hospital Earns ACR Accreditation for 3.0T MRI Unit

(Houston, TX) — Methodist Willowbrook Hospital has been awarded a three-year term of accreditation in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) for its new 3.0T MRI Unit as the result of a recent review by the American College of Radiology (ACR).

Four times as strong as a conventional (1.5) magnet, the 3.0T MRI offers far greater detail and clarity, allowing physicians to detect subtle changes that other tests may not reveal.

"We are very proud to add this cutting-edge technology to our diagnostic armamentarium and to demonstrate to our patients and physicians, with the American College of Radiology accreditation, that we meet the highest standards for image quality," says Thomas Dumler, M.D., Chief of Radiology at Methodist Willowbrook Hospital.

Methodist Willowbrook´s MRI Department performs more than 6,000 procedures every year. The department serves outpatients six days a week and offers general anesthesia as requested by the physician.

The ACR gold seal of accreditation represents the highest level of image quality and patient safety. It is awarded only to facilities meeting ACR Practice Guidelines and Technical Standards after a peer-review evaluation by board-certified physicians and medical physicists who are experts in the field. Image quality, personnel qualifications, adequacy of facility equipment, quality control procedures, and quality assurance programs are assessed. The findings are reported to the ACR Committee on Accreditation, which subsequently provides the practice with a comprehensive report they can use for continuous practice improvement.

The ACR is a national professional organization serving more than 34,000 diagnostic/interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, nuclear medicine physicians, and medical physicists with programs focusing on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology and the delivery of comprehensive health care services.

The hospital is a not-for-profit, faith based hospital, which is part of The Methodist Hospital System. It has expanded its campus in Northwest Houston to serve the area in a more comprehensive way.

Methodist Willowbrook Hospital has received its chest pain and stroke accreditations, performs complex surgeries such as neurosurgery and open heart, and focuses on women and children in its new Women´s & Children´s Pavilion.
