In 2011, Methodist furthered its commitment to providing access for patients suffering from end-stage organ failure. The Transplant Center opened two new outpatient clinics that provide organ failure management. Community clinic locations include:
All care in the satellite locations follows the same leading-edge protocols established for the Transplant Center. The experienced staff at the community clinics offer the majority of testing, education and evaluation services for pretransplant patients in a convenient, comfortable setting. Transplant surgery takes place at The Methodist Hospital in the Texas Medical Center®.
Methodist forged a unique relationship with UMC Health System and Texas Tech University to meet kidney transplant needs in West Texas. The institutions work together to provide pre and posttransplant care at UMC, with transplant surgery taking place at Methodist in Houston.
Within the affiliation, Dr. Vineeta Sood, nephrologist and director of transplant services, and Dr. Werner T. de Riese, urological surgeon, manage a comprehensive outpatient transplant clinic at UMC.
Patients remain at home until living donor surgery is scheduled or until a deceased donor kidney becomes available.
The two teams make every effort to arrange cost-effective, seamless travel and lodging for patients while in Houston. Patients return home as quickly as two weeks after transplant surgery.
