Clinical Services

The Methodist Department of Pathology and Genomic Medicine provides a comprehensive spectrum of premium, technologically-advanced diagnostic services to the five hospitals that comprise The Methodist Hospital System. These laboratory services impart vital support for the Methodist core mission of providing high-quality, cost-effective health care with internationally recognized teaching and research. As one of the nation’s leading hospitals, Methodist provides outstanding contemporary laboratory services that include a wide-ranging test menu, sophisticated instrumentation and diagnostic methods, rapid turnaround of test results, and consultative services from some of the most proficient pathologists in academic medicine in the United States.

The department faculty is comprised of accomplished pathologists, many of whom are leaders in their respective fields. Their clinical experiences and original research are published in the most respected medical journals. Regular clinicopathologic conferences are held to discuss difficult and interesting cases, further ensuring accurate and timely diagnoses for our patients. These conferences are especially important when diagnosing rare conditions or reviewing cases presented through the Second Opinion Consultation Service.

Our world-class facilities are equipped with the latest innovations in laboratory instrumentation and staffed by trained technologists with extensive expertise in medical laboratory science. Our laboratories are registered with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and certified by the appropriate accrediting boards and certification programs as required by the Clinical Laboratories Improvement Amendments (CLIA) and the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, including the College of American Pathologists (CAP), American Society for Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ASHI), and American Association of Blood Banks (AABB).

Doctors and patients alike can find a measure of comfort in knowing that the diagnostic pathology services they are receiving in the Department of Pathology and Genomic Medicine at Methodist are efficient, accurate, and consistent with the Methodist brand of professional excellence.

These pathology and laboratory medicine services are also available to other subscribing hospitals and provider groups, as well as academic and commercial research groups. For more information, please call: 713-441-3484 or email: ptnguyen@houstonmethodist.org.

The Department of Pathology and Genomic Medicine offers a FNA biopsy service for patients with superficial palpable masses. The procedure takes only 20-30 minutes and is done in our new day surgery suite in the Methodist Outpatient Center at 6445 Main Street, in The Methodist Hospital complex. A bedside FNA biospy service for superficial palpable masses is also available for inpatients, including patients in the emergency room.
