Breast Cancer Risk Assessment

Are You at High Risk for Developing Breast Cancer?

Have you or your mother/sister/daughter/aunt or brother/father/uncle had breast cancer?

Do you have a combination of at least two family members (aunts, uncles, grandparents, or first cousins) on the same side of the family with breast cancer?  
Have you or anyone in the family had ovarian cancer?  
Do you, or any member of your family, have a genetic mutation in any of the breast cancer genes (BRCA 1, BRCA 2?)  
Have you had radiation therapy treatment to your chest for lymphoma?  
Have you ever had an abnormal breast biopsy (atypical hyperplasia, lobular carcinoma in situ-also called LCIS)?  
Are you of Ashkenazi Jewish heritage and have at least one family member with breast or ovarian cancer?

If you answered NO to any of these questions, then you are not currently identified as someone who is at high risk for developing breast cancer. However, since 1 in 8 women will develop breast cancer during the course of her lifetime, Houston Methodist encourages all women to have annual mammograms. To find a location near you, click here.
