U.S. News ranks The Methodist Hospital in more specialties than any hospital in Texas

Houston, TX - 7/19/2011

The Methodist Hospital ranked among the country's top hospitals in 11 specialties in U.S. News & World Report's 2011 "Best Hospitals" issue, ranking in more specialties than any other hospital in Texas.

The Methodist Hospital also ranked No. 1 in the Houston area in the magazine's Best Metro Area Hospitals list. San Jacinto Methodist Hospital ranked No. 9 on the list and Methodist Willowbrook Hospital was No. 17.

"This impressive showing and our consistent ranking by U.S. News over the past two decades highlights our commitment to our patients," said Ron Girotto, CEO and president of The Methodist Hospital System. "This honor belongs to our employees and physicians for upholding this commitment and making Methodist one of the best hospital systems in the country."

The hospitals ranked nationally by the magazine received a score that weighs reputation, mortality and a group of care-related factors such as nursing and technology. Each specialty lists the 50 highest-scoring hospitals. In all, there are more than 5,000 hospitals eligible for the rankings, and only 140 were ranked as one of the nation's best hospitals.

Methodist ranked in the following specialties: cardiology & heart surgery (19), diabetes & endocrinology (32), ear, nose & throat (22), gastroenterology (24), geriatrics (23), nephrology (33), neurology & neurosurgery (22), ophthalmology (14), orthopedics (30), pulmonology (27), and urology (23).

The complete rankings are online at the U.S. News & World Report website.
