Methodist receives coveted Magnet designation for third time

Houston, TX - 6/27/2011

The American Nurses Credentialing Center's (ANCC) Magnet Recognition Program® has recognized The Methodist Hospital as a Magnet® recognized health care facility for the third time. The Magnet honor represents the highest level of international recognition to health care organizations that demonstrate sustained excellence in nursing care.

Only bestowed on approximately 6 percent of our nation's hospitals, Magnet status also provides consumers with the ultimate benchmark to measure the quality of care they can expect to receive.

"It is an honor for us to receive our third Magnet recognition, and the credit really goes to our entire nursing and medical community for all of their efforts in creating an environment where teamwork and great patient care results in stellar outcomes," said Ann Scanlon McGinity, senior vice president and chief nurse executive at The Methodist Hospital. "I am so proud that we have developed a true Magnet culture within our organization where we use our great energy, spirit and creativity to make a difference in the lives of our patients and their families."

All Magnet recognition program applicants undergo an extensive evaluation, and members who are granted Magnet status must continue to maintain rigorous standards as part of their four-year designation. Earlier this year, appraisers from ANCC visited Methodist to conduct an official Magnet onsite survey in which nearly every inpatient and outpatient unit was visited and hundreds of staff members were interviewed. The Methodist Hospital also earned Magnet status in 2002 and 2006. The organization currently ranks as one of 17 Magnet facilities in the state of Texas.

The Magnet Recognition Program® administered by the American Nurses Credentialing Center the largest and most prominent nurses credentialing organization in the world, recognizes health care organizations that provide the very best in nursing care and professionalism in nursing practice. The Magnet Recognition Program serves as the gold standard for nursing excellence and provides consumers with the ultimate benchmark for measuring quality of care.
