Methodist hosts multidisciplinary cardiovascular patient care summit for senior fellows

Houston, TX - 12/21/2009

The Methodist DeBakey Heart & Vascular Center would like invite senior fellows to participate in the inaugural program, "Optimizing Cardiovascular Patient Care through Innovative Collaboration", onFebruary 4 – 5, 2010, at the Methodist Institute for Technology, Innovation and Education (MITIESM) and Hotel ZaZa.

The two-day conference will focus on the latest and emerging technologies of catheter-based and surgical approaches for the treatment of coronary disease, valvular disease and aortic pathology. The conference will highlight clinical cases in which trainees will gain insight into multidisciplinary approaches to caring for patients with cardiovascular disease and the importance of collaboration across sub-specialties.

At the end of this program the attendees will achieve the following program goals:

  • Gain insights into future medical devices that rely on multidisciplinary teams.
  • Receive hands on experience with technologies that build the skills required in surgical suites and catheterization labs of the future.
  • Discuss optimized patient care through collaborative approaches with peers.

"We believe that meetings such as this one will set the stage for inter-disciplinary management of challenging clinical scenarios," said Dr. Michael Reardon, program director and chief of cardiac surgery at The Methodist Hospital.

To participate, fellows must be currently studying interventional medicine, vascular surgery or cardiac surgery, enrolled in a fellowship at an institution with a multi-specialty program and be one year or less from graduating.
