The 26-floor Methodist Outpatient Center opens July 19

Houston, TX - 7/13/2010

The Methodist Hospital will open one of the country’s largest outpatient centers on July 19, when patients visit the 1.6 million-square-foot facility for the first time.

The 26-floor Methodist Outpatient Center, the largest building in the Texas Medical Center dedicated solely to patient care, is located next to Smith Tower across the street from The Methodist Hospital. It was designed to enhance the patient’s experience, with 1,370 parking spaces, easy wayfinding and family rooms filled with resources for patients and their families. In addition, visitors will be greeted by patient navigators who will assist them in getting to their appointments. The building will house a variety of services including orthopedic surgery, Methodist DeBakey Heart & Vascular Center imaging, the Methodist Cancer Center, radiology, Weight Management Center and Wellness Services. Nearly all of Methodist’s outpatient services will move to the new building, which features a contemporary, patient-centered design. For a full list of services moving to the new center, please visit¬† methodisthealth.com/opc.

“This building was designed for our patients,” said Ron Girotto, president and CEO of The Methodist Hospital System.¬† “It features not only state-of-the-art equipment and facilities, but a healing environment. From the art on the wall, to the large waterwall in the lobby to our high tech operating rooms, our hope is to provide our patients with compassionate and quality health care.”

The new building was designed by WHR Architects with Hensel Phelps Construction Co. serving as general contractors and Broaddus & Associates handling the project management.

The Methodist Outpatient Center is just one of several expansion projects opening this year. In April, Methodist Willowbrook Hospital’s new North Pavilion opened. The seven-story building brings the hospital’s patient bed count from 119 to 251, with the ability to expand to 349 by 2017. In October, Methodist opens its 440,000 square-foot research institute, which will feature 12 floors and house 90 principal investigators and 800 staff. And later this year, Methodist West Houston Hospital will open to residents in west Houston.
