DONALD (DON) PIERCE FORD, M.D. died peacefully June 4 after a long illness. Born February 25, 1923, Aurora, Illinois, he was the son of Walter Ari Ford, M.D. and Marietta Walsh Ford. He grew up in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, and attended Culver Military School and the University of Wisconsin where he was a member of the Alpha Delta Phi Fraternity. He moved to Houston in 1946 and attended Baylor College of Medicine where he received his medical degree in 1950.

He interned in Chicago at Wesley Memorial Hospital.He proudly served his country during the Korean War as a Major and paramedic with the 6th Air Rescue Squadron in St. John's, Newfoundland, Pepperell U.S. Air Force Base. After serving for two years in the Air Force he did his residency in ophthalmology at Tulane in New Orleans. He was a gifted surgeon who practiced in Houston for more than 35 years. He was a member of several medical societies and practiced at The Methodist Hospital for most of his career. He was a Professor of Surgery at Baylor at the time of his retirement in 1992. Over the years, his family has had the pleasure of meeting many of his former patients who greatly appreciated his care. He is survived by his wife, Mimi Morris Ford; three daughters: Joan Ford Pappas and husband Chris, Mary Terrell Ford, Elizabeth Collins Ford; and six grandchildren: Christopher Culver Pappas, Jr., Matthew Trent Pappas, Phillip Brooke Pappas, Terrell Scott Pappas, Sarah Mitchell Pappas, and Joan Brooke Pappas.

The honorary pallbearers for Dr. Ford are Christopher Culver Pappas, Sr., Christopher Culver Pappas, Jr., Matthew Trent Pappas, Phillip Brooke Pappas and Terrell Scott Pappas.Family will receive friends Monday, June 7th, at the Bradshaw-Carter home, 1734 West Alabama Street, from five until eight o'clock in the evening. The funeral service will be held Tuesday, June 8th, at two o'clock in the afternoon at Christ Church Cathedral, 1117 Texas Avenue.
