Transitional Program

Transitional Year Program

The Methodist Hospital (Houston) Transitional Year Program is fully accredited through May of 2014, by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) which is jointly sponsored by the American Board of Medical Specialties, the American Hospital Association, the American Medical Association, the Association of American Medical Colleges, and the Council of Medical Specialty Societies.

The Methodist Hospital (Houston) Transitional Year Program consists of 12 months of training, (13, four-week blocks) in conjunction with rules and regulations outlined by the ACGME. Our two program sponsors are the The Methodist Hospital (Houston) Internal Medicine Program and the The Methodist Hospital (Houston) General Surgery Training Program.

The program participates in a Boot Camp held during the first block of the year. The Boot Camp is attended by the first year residents from the three Department of Medicine programs, Internal Medicine, Family Practice, and Transitional Year.

During the Transitional Year there is a systematic curriculum with didactic lectures, journal club, and participation in an in-training examination.
