Obstetrics and Gynecology Residency Program

Thank you for your interest in The Methodist Hospital Residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology in Houston, Texas. We hope to provide you with the information necessary to select the right training program.

The Methodist Hospital is nationally ranked in 11 specialties by U.S.News & World Report.

The Methodist Hospital System offers an outstanding education due to our dedicated and knowledgeable staff. Affiliated with the Weill Cornell Medical College, the hospital directs millions of research dollars into patient care and offers the latest innovations in medical, surgical, and diagnostic techniques. Methodist is nationally ranked in 11 specialties by “U.S.News & World Report” and is one of Fortune Magazine's “100 Best Companies to Work For,” as we continue to maintain a standard of excellence that promises only the best care for our patients and, therefore, only the best education for our medical students and residents. One example of Methodist’s technical capabilities is that it possesses 7 da Vinci robotic systems, including 2 new dual console Si models, allowing the resident/assistant to participate in the surgery. This is more than any other hospital in the country.

Our residency combines the strengths of a university program with the diversity of a community program. We have strong ties with three different medical schools including Weill Cornell Medical College, the University of Texas Medical School in Houston, and The University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, and an emphasis in academics and research. Residents rotate through five general hospitals and are exposed to an expansive clinical experience.

We are in an exciting growth phase. Approved to expand to 5 residents per year (Spring 2009 was the first year to match 5), the program will accept 5 incoming trainees on an ongoing basis to increase the resident complement to 20 trainees. Methodist-Katy, which will serve as yet another major clinical site, will open in the Winter of 2010.
