Houston Methodist has a long tradition of training physicians in various medical and surgical specialties. Houston Methodist Hospital received accreditation for its first sponsored residency program in April 2005. Since then, Houston Methodist’s graduate medical education program has grown to include 30 ACGME-accredited programs and 8 GMEC-sponsored (non-ACGME) programs. Additional specialty programs continue to be developed as well.
In addition to our own residents, Houston Methodist continues to train specialty and subspecialty residents from: Baylor College of Medicine, The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston, The University of Texas Medical Branch at Galveston, The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, as well as other training institutions across programs.
Houston Methodist Hospital ranked among the country's top hospitals in 11 specialties in U.S. News & World Report's 2011 "Best Hospitals" issue, ranking in more specialties than any other hospital in Texas.
Houston Methodist Hospital also ranked No. 1 in the Houston area in the magazine's Best Metro Area Hospitals list.
