Case Volume

To be eligible for the American Board of Surgery Qualifying Examination, applicants must be the operating surgeon for a minimum of 750 operative procedures in five years and for a minimum of 150 operative procedures in the chief resident year. These procedures must include operative experience in each of the essential content areas below.

This table shows the aforementioned essential content areas, the minimum number of cases required by the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education Surgery Residency Review Committee, and the average number of cases performed by our 2008-2009 chief residents.
