Tong Sun, M.S., M.B.A.
Director of Central Operations
As Director of Central Operations for TMHRI, Mr. Sun is responsible for the administrative and operational functions in faculty affairs, education, human resources and technical cores. Working closely with TMHRI Vice President of Operations and Chief Medical & Technology Officer, he coordinates member recruitment, performance evaluation and promotion. He is the primary executive contact for The Methodist Academy, which is TMHRI's educational and training initiative to develop educational and research partnerships that foster medical innovation.
Mr. Sun Joined TMHRI in November 2010. Prior to his appointment at TMHRI, he was the Director of Management Operations in the Department of Nanomedicine and Biomedical Engineering at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston. He directed the administrative and financial operation of a department with 70 faculty, trainees and staff supported by more than $60 million research funding of federal, state and private grants/contracts.
Mr. Sun received a M.S. in Biomedical Sciences from The University of Texas Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences at Houston and a M.B.A. from the McCombs School of Business at The University of Texas at Austin. He spent 10 years at The University of Texas M. D. Anderson Cancer Center, conducting research on oncogenes, protein kinases and signal transduction of leukemia. He published 18 research papers in journals including Cancer Research, Clinical Cancer Research, Oncogene and Nanoscale, co-authored two book chapters and holds two patent applications.
