Biography

Dr. Shen received his M.D. and M.S. from Tongji Medical University, Wuhan, People's Republic of China in 1987. After receiving his Ph.D. from the Graduate School of Biomedical Sciences at The University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston in 1994, he received two years of postdoctoral training at the National Institutes of Health. From 1997 to 2001, he received his residency training in anatomical and clinical pathology at Pennsylvania State University/Hershey Medical Center, followed by a one-year fellowship in surgical pathology at The University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center in Houston, Texas. He joined Baylor College of Medicine and Houston Methodist Hospital as an assistant professor in 2002, and became an assistant professor of pathology and laboratory medicine at the Weill Cornell Medical College of Cornell University in 2004. He was promoted to associate professor there in 2008, and to professor in 2013.

Dr. Shen is a general surgical pathologist with subspecialty interest in genitourinary pathology. His research activities focus on identifying morphologic and molecular abnormalities of neoplasm, and correlating these with diagnosis, prognosis, and in some instances, future treatment. He is actively involved in independent and collaborative research using conventional histomorphologic techniques, immunohistochemical methods, tissue microarray, and new molecular approaches to study cancers of the kidney, urinary bladder, and prostate.
