Fueled by significant expansions in the lung and kidney programs, the Methodist Transplant Center in Houston has been in record territory since October of this year. By late September, the excitement was building as the number of transplants performed at Houston Methodist was approaching the prior record of 195. Already, the lung program had broken the old record of 40 transplants performed in 2007, and the Houston Methodist Living Donor Center had been flying with 49 living donor kidney transplants, compared to the previous record of 28 in 2007.
Our incredible results in 2008 are making the Methodist Transplant Center expansion even more impressive as we meet or exceed all monitor and bench marks.
"I am proud to say we not just doing more than ever, but better than ever," said Dr. Osama Gaber, director of transplant at Houston Methodist.
