Dr. Ziemys earned his Ph.D. in Molecular Biophysics from the Vytautas Magnus University in 2002. He held a faculty appointment at Vytautas Magnus University and the position of staff scientist at the Institute of Biochemistry. Dr. Ziemys earned two awards from the Lithuanian Academy of Sciences during this period of time. The main focus of his research was biocatalysis using experimental and computational methods. He left for postdoctoral training at the Ohio State University in 2005, where he studied protein structure under ambient and extreme conditions. Dr. Ziemys continued his training at the University of Texas Health Science Center from 2009 to 2010, focusing on biophysical aspects of nanofluidics and drug delivery. While at the University of Texas Health Science Center he was awarded a postdoctoral fellowship, and worked on a research project that won a national competition to be performed in space.

Description of Research

Dr. Ziemys's research program focuses on nanofluidics, drug delivery, drug design, and interface phenomena for biomedical applications. His current research aims are the development of therapeutic agent mass transport and zero-order drug delivery mechanisms.
