Advances in Robotic Surgery

Robotic surgery has evolved dramatically since it was first introduced over five years ago.  Today, the National Library of Medicine archives scientific findings, which support the improved clinical outcomes that physicians across the United States are achieving with this advanced technology.

The robotics platform of the da Vinci® Surgical System was developed by Intuitive Surgical Inc. and allows specially trained surgeons in all areas of medicine to perform some of the most delicate procedures with an enhanced view and optimal access to the operating field.

This minimally invasive surgery allows surgeons to perform the most complex surgical procedures through tiny 1-2 cm incisions.  Risks and recovery time are reduced, while pain is minimized.  This revolutionary new approach to surgery is improving outcomes and reducing the need for subsequent surgeries.
