Strength and Conditioning
Return to Play
No one likes to be sidelined with an injury, and our goal is to get athletes back into action as soon as possible. “Return to play” refers to the point in recovery from an injury when an individual is able to resume their sport or activity at the pre-injury level. Our clients have typically completed rehabilitation and therapy services but still require improved endurance and strength before return to play. Our certified strength and conditioning specialists help bridge that gap and help reduce the risk for re-injury.
When an athlete is unable to maintain physical activity during a period of injury and recovery, loss of muscular and cardiovascular fitness can result. After the inactive period, most athletes envision returning to their training routine at a level to which he or she is accustomed at peak level; however, this approach increases risk of injury due to the reduced physical capabilities.
Our specialists have expertise developing training programs at reduced levels as part of the rebuilding process, slowly gaining strength and endurance. And since our specialists are also licensed physical therapists, clients can be confident during this process with movements closely monitored. Our training sessions are tailored to the individual client, and as strength returns to normal, functional drills and sport-specific movement patterns can be incorporated to help athletes progress with motion, balance, speed, agility, power, strength, endurance, and coordination.
An innovative component of our program is utilization of the Move2Perform software, a movement measurement and analysis tool that identifies deficits and risk of injury. Adopted by the U.S. military and professional sports teams internationally, Move2Perform categorizes injury risk and objectively tracks progress, providing an added tool when making return to sport and return to activity decisions. The computer application synthesizes results from proven and popular tests (e.g. Y Balance Test, Functional Movement Screen, Hop Testing) to calculate musculoskeletal status specific to the individual’s age, gender, and sport/activity. By using a proprietary algorithm based on years of published research, The Move2Perform software is a supplement to our strength and conditioning services, helping our team make evidence based return to play decisions while managing injury risk.
