What Is a Resting Metabolic Rate Test?
Resting Metabolic Rate (RMR) represents the energy expended at rest and is the minimal amount of energy expenditure needed to support basic physiological processes, which account for 60 percent to 75 percent of the total energy you expend each day.
This test takes 20 to 30 minutes to administer and will show how many calories your body burns at rest. We will then use this information to determine how many calories your body needs to maintain its current weight and provide guidelines on expected weight loss based on a certain calorie diet. We include an exercise, lifestyle and weight loss consultation based on results.
Patients are in a relaxed, lying down position while breathing through a mask. Patients should fast for at least eight hours prior to the test and be free from stimulants, such as caffeine and nicotine. It is preferable to administer the RMR test in the morning.
