Gastroenterology Fellowship

The Houston Methodist Gastroenterology Fellowship (Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) #1444814251) is designed to develop the careers of future colleagues and leaders in community or academic gastroenterology and hepatology through comprehensive education, mentorship and intensive training in clinical practice and research. A strong clinical background and training experience are considered essential for each of these tracks. Our goal is to select the best clinicians and expose them to intensive training and scholarly activities.

Our program offers a unique opportunity to train and foster top-notch future physicians in these specialties. Located in the Texas Medical Center, we have exposure to a diverse patient population spanning seven Houston Methodist hospitals. We are ranked in 11 adult specialties by U.S. News & World Report and ranked 8th in the nation for gastroenterology and GI surgery.

We recognize that the future generations of competent gastroenterologists need to be fortified with the diverse range of knowledge and competencies. Our fellows are given the structure and supervision required to ensure that each are well-trained, competent gastroenterologists and are given guidance and mentorship toward their individual professional goals and aspirations. The three-year program fully integrates the Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) core competencies and milestones through a required set of rotations, a didactic curriculum and elective rotations designed to broaden the base of knowledge. Our fellows, faculty and program are continuously evaluated to ensure success in achieving these competencies, goals and objectives.

All training is done at Houston Methodist Hospital and connected facilities in the Texas Medical Center. Fellows have unrivaled opportunity to train with both the academic and private faculty, as well as develop clinical or translational research projects at the Houston Methodist Research Institute.
