The Houston Methodist Hospital Department of Spiritual Care and Education provides specialized and compassionate bereavement support.
Bereavement Support Group
We invite anyone who is grieving the loss or anticipated loss of a loved one to attend our weekly bereavement group, which meets every Monday from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. and every Tuesday from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Institute of Spirituality and Health, 8100 Greenbriar St., Suite 220, Houston, Texas 77054. This is our way of providing you with support needed to move through grief. Meetings include free lunch and parking.
The group is sponsored by Houston Methodist Spiritual Care and Education and the Institute for Spirituality and Health. If you have questions, please call Jerri Doctor at 713.797.0600.
Patient and Family Bereavement
The Houston Methodist Spiritual Care and Education Department provides grief support to patients and their families. We understand that the loss of a loved one can be deeply painful to those left behind.
The loss of a baby through miscarriage, stillbirth or other means represents an occasion of profound sadness and grief. Our chaplains respond to parents with compassionate listening, spiritual and emotional support, and bereavement education and support. Whenever there is a perinatal death in the hospital, the unit will notify a chaplain, who will visit the parents, provide helpful grief support materials and follow up by telephone a few days after discharge.
As an expression of our faith-based identity and I CARE values, we offer various types of bereavement support to hospital staff members following a family member's death. Support is also available to families following the death of any current Houston Methodist employee. Departmental directors or managers should make requests for employee bereavement support.
